Ever since the day you were taken from our tenderness, I have been waiting in vain… Nothing has come from you, nothing that could make me hope that you were still remembering me… Why should I be surprised? I have the misfortune of still being the son of a poor nobleman while you, you have become the daughter of a rich merchant”.

Born on the fifth day of the fifth month an incredibly unlucky occurrence in Japanese folklore destined to bring catastrophe, Okoma is abandoned by her father Shohei. One night, he takes the cute baby in his arms, stealthily exits and hurries away. He walks for a long time until a house with fairly good appearance stands in front of him. He kisses the poor child Okoma and, slowly puts her on the doorstep. Then he runs aways without looking back.
