This unique collection of stereo photographs, re-imagined as 3D anaglyphs by AJ Halkes, are a unique time capsule of Hong Kong in the 1980s capturing lost landscapes and iconic locations from the sunken JUMBO floating restaurant to some of the very last rickshaws circulating central. Now available from Halkes Galleries in limited editions of as low as 5 at the largest scale many of these scenes will never be seen again.

The “George Hilton Panorama of Hong Kong” was photographed around 1904 by an exceptionally talented military photographer on duty in Hong Kong who later settled in the inland wine country of British Columbia at the peaceful lakeside town of Penticton, Canada. It’s thought he was stationed in Hong Kong with the Royal Engineers around the turn of the century.

Famous Japanese novel
Okoma is a famous Japanese novel illustrated by Félicien Régamey. It was published in 1883 by E. Plon et Cie in Paris. The novel is a fictionalized account of the life of Okoma, a tragic figure who lived in Japan in the 19th century. The book was a popular success in France and was translated into several languages, including English. Halkes Galleries offers prints and original art obtained from early copies of the book.

Arriving in Hong Kong in 1976 Aj Halkes took his first photographs at the age of six years old going on to establish the first commercial holography business in Asia and has been engaged in industrial and graphic design ever since. Featured in the DHL SCMP Business Awards, a Red Dot Industrial Design winner and patent holder he has over the years employed multiple artists and photographers to bring about his vision, resulting in his unique collection; not before seen by the public. The Hong Kong 3D anaglyphs collection is a memento of his home city and is part of an extensive collection of unique and historic moments and locations.
